Ethical Finances

The Co-operative Bank has long sold itself as an ethical financial institution and it’s latest advertising campaign continues with this theme. The ‘good with money’ strapline encompasses so much more than solid financial returns.

Thirteen years after the Banking arm of Co-op launched it’s ethical policy, Co-operative insurance did the same. Together they take a two-pronged approach against issues that concern their members and investors.

The Bank does not invest in any company that is ‘of a concern’ to its customers, for example arms dealing or companies with poor human rights records. On the other side of the coin, Co-op insurance will invest in what it believes to be unethical companies, but with the intention of changing their policies from within.

So the Co-operative movement remains alive and strong and is sure to grow as an increasing number of customers become socially and environmentally aware.
